Spring run 2015

Lunch stop, still raining!

What fuels an Ariel?
Whilst we all new we were in for some rain between 11 and 12, we didn't expect rain all day on the Spring run 2015. This was a great shame as Rod did us proud with an excellent run through mid Devon. 16 or so riders signed on at the Corn Dolly and had a nice hot coffee prior to setting off in the rain for the run. One bike decided that it was a little wet for it and attempted to avoid the run, only finally starting when Maurice gave it and it's rider a good push. The route took us down the road to Witheridge before turning off just before the Chulmleigh road towards Kings Nympton ,then Chulmleigh, Ashreigney and on to Winkleigh. Rod then turned us gently around heading back though Chittlehamholt before stopping at the Bell at Chittlehampton for lunch. We lost Mike half way around the morning route when his back brake rod came out of it's arm rendering him rear brakeless!. John's Velo almost didn't start at a junction but was finally persuaded to submit gracefully, and the Triumph which had to be pushed at the start, had to have further push at the junction just off the A377 as it had a broken valve lifter clamp. At the lunch stop, a number of riders set off for home as they were quite wet by this time, 7 of us sat down to a meal and were joined by Jack who came for the afternoon run. Tony headed for home after lunch so 7 were led away by Rod for a shorter, but still interesting run back to the Corn Dolly for a well earned cuppa. It just remains for me to thank Rod for this first run of the year and to all those who turned up. The run home was quite pleasant as the rain had stopped and some blue sky was seen, it appeared that there had been little or no rain in Tiverton, Exeter or Dunsford all day!, ah well, maybe the next run on April 12th will be dry so be at Bradworthy Square far an 11am start, see you there folks.
