Evening meet 220823

There was a good turnout on a perfect sunny day at the Black Cock Inn on Tuesday evening for this our penultimate ( what not already!), evening run for this year. Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening and the location, but alas the food was not of a memorable quality it seems. A goodly chinwag ensued putting the worlds woes right and discussing various upcoming events such as the Bideford pannier market display options and the three tors run on the 3rd September. Good to see Nigel from Wivvy who enjoyed riding his RE to the event, he tells me he would like a C10, anyone got one or know of one?.

Next run 3rd September three tors and then 10th September for the Dartmoor run, our last evening run this year will be on Thursday 14th September at the Poltimore Arms, Yarde down.

Summer run 130823

Considering the unappealing weather, a pleasing 13 riders signed on for our summer run ( Atlantic coast run ) to the Cornwall at war museum at Davidstow. We set off at a cracking pace following run leader Pete on his ‘scruffy but reliable’ ( his words ), A10. We followed the lovely fast sweeping A388 to Holsworthy, where we paused to rendezvous with any ( non existent ), riders from further afield to join us.
Unfortunately, Pete was unable to re-start his now not so reliable A10 owing to a sheared off ignition connector. We left Pete there in the company of a few friends and Ian kindly offered to return home and come back with his van.

Andy then took up the lead and after negotiating the holiday traffic around Bude, we stopped for lunch at the Engine House cafe in Otterham Station. Here we were pleased to meet up with a few riders from the Cornwall section, members of which had been invited to join us for the museum visit. It was great to see Gordon who also joined us at the cafe after a long cross country trek from Tiverton via his relatives in deepest Cornwall.

Before leaving for the museum, surprise surprise, Pete arrived on his A10 having made a running repair and the suffering the indignity of a partial seized engine thought due to a timing wobble caused by the earlier problem with the points circuit. Although he did admit that it might also have been something to do with him ‘ragging it a bit’ on the fast uphill section of the A39! Suffice to say that Pete was finally picked up by Ian in his van.

Our remaining group carried on to enjoy a visit to the strangely fascinating and unique collection of memorabilia at the war museum, including the rather spooky officers mess tableau and we wont talk about Susannah Yorke in the Battle of Britain display. To end the day, folks dispersed home as yet another Atlantic low was closing in. Many thanks to Pete for organising and leading an enjoyable day out, we trust his A10 will get better soon.

Next meet is on Tuesday 22nd at The Black Cock Inn Molland near South Molton, hope to see you.

Summer run 130823

Pete has run the route for our summer run on the 13th from Affinity / Atlantic village leaving 11 am, lunch will be at the engine room cafe in Otterton then on to the Cornwall at war museum. This is one for the more capable bikes, so leave your wheezy Bantams and C15’s in the garage brush off your big boys, get ready for open roads and great scenery with no grass up the middle lanes. Hopefully we will meet up with the Cornwall section at some point, hope to see you there folks.
