Evening meet 24th April 2025

 

8 riders rode through a pleasant April dry evening to the Stags Head in Filleigh for this our first evening meet of the year. We welcomed two new to the group and hope we made them feel at home.

Naturally much of the talk centred around Mike and his accident where he was rear ended by a vehicle at the Roundswell roundabout. John was able to update us to the fact that Mike has been brought home where he must wait until his ankle swelling has gone down before the operation to sort it, we all wish him well and offer any practical help he may need.

We were able to take over a couple of outside tables where the usual banter and catching up took place. Let’s hope these evening meets attract a good number of riders as they represent a chance to ride unhindered by the need to keep up as in the run.

Net run will be 11th May at Quince for a trip around Exmoor.

East Devon escapade 13/04/25

 

The forecasters gave rain but the Devon section proved them wrong when 9 riders met at the Riverside caravan park in South Molton for Ian’s first of the season run. Ian apologised for not having a new run as he had hoped but everyone enjoyed this one so much that there was no mention made.

We were lead out of the park on the road to North Molton, then on to the edge of the moor and down the hills to the famous Marsh bridge, then on to Dulverton.

In the middle of Dulverton we were all brought to a halt as Ian’s rear brake was boiling enough to do the Sunday roast!. Once he had released the bleed screw, we were again on the way, or so we thought when just a few miles later, he had to pull in as his front and only remaining brake had run out of fluid. Topped up with fluid we were away again to have a rest and refreshment at Withypool.

Whilst at Withy, a bunch of female riders turned up for a lunchtime break. After said stop the afternoon set off on the road to Simonsbath over the moors, then we turned off on the road to South Molton, here the run came to an end with some breaking off for refreshment and the remainder heading home.

A great day out thanks to Ian organising the run, leading and providing the entertainment, also to John and Cliff doing the back marking.

Next meet is an evening one on April 24th the Stags Head in Filleigh, hope the weather is good and you can come.
