Scrumpy run 120519

Numbers were down at this years Scrumpy run due to illness, holidays and operation recovery, however 12 riders turned up at Mullacott cross for the run, these were 10 Devon section members and 2 possible new recruits. The weather was fine and promised to be the same all day though the ride in had been somewhat chilly for all.
Unfortunately, Ian discovered that his rear wheel was 'wobbling' a bit, something which he had thought he had cured when he found his wheel axle nut loose the day before, as the Scrumpy run is quite challenging due to ups and downs and tight corners, he reluctantly on advice set off to ride gently home.
Todays run was Chris's to lead but as he had an undefined pain in his side come on quite suddenly, he rang me to say that he could not attend, my discussions with Dermot lead to a call to Tony who agreed to step in to lead the run.
We set off then at 1100 with Tony in the lead and John agreeing to do back marshal duties with me at the rear. Tony lead us down the hill into and through Ilfracombe then on to Combe martin where the turn was made up the hill to the real start of the run. The valley of the rocks were passed through then Lynton and Barbrook before a turn down into the valley eventually arriving at the Staghunters Inn for lunch, here a table had been set aside for us and we had a great meal.
One of the riders left here saying that he had thoroughly enjoyed the mornings route, so we pressed on through Simonsbath and Brayford before arriving at the finish at the Northgate Inn at Aller cross. One rider stopped on his BSA but indicated he was ok and needed no help, then a few others split off to return home.
Grateful thanks to Tony for leading, to John agreeing to cover the back with me and hopes that the wounded soldiers will join us again soon.
Next run is June 9th for the Dartmoor run, Ian tells me that the D&S supplies may be shut so watch this place for an alternate start venue nearby.
